In Brazil like most emerging countries of the world, Universities produce a significant amount of groundbreaking inventions every year and, to many studies, they may constitute the best sources of intellectual property to the industries which would consequently generate economic growth and development. As such, it is crucially important to understand how Intellectual property right has been an advantage to the Brazilian universities, industries, and government. In this research, we have inquired into understanding the participation of the elements of triple helix, University, Government, Industry in promoting intellectual property and technological innovation as well as the performance of the university's patent and technology transfer office. Thus, analyzing the available data of one of the leading Brazilian universities, the performance of the innovation and technology transfer office (TTO) is verified using specific overall performance metric indicator in order to diagnose andprovide a comprehensive overview of the Universidade de Minas Gerais' TTO on drug patents, its trend in technology innovation as means to indicating the factors for a successful TTO.
