This book provides an analysis of the strategic development of Yara International ASA, a prominent Norwegian firm that began in 1905, demerged from Norsk Hydro in 2004, and has become a world leader in mineral fertilizer and industrial gases operating in over 120 nations. Applying the case study approach, and utilising primary data (on-site interviews) and secondary data (financial reports, human resource data and more), I apply Lemaire's PREST model to evaluate political-regulatory, economic and social, and technological aspects of the company's development to respond to: How has the international development of Yara International evolved from its de-merger from Hydro in 2004 until present day, in light of the unfolding environment in which it operates and the strengths and weaknesses it possesses? What opportunities and challenges has Yara faced in its progression as market leader in the world mineral fertilizer industry and how have these been addressed? This international audit of Yara ASA ties together applicable micro (sectoral analysis), meso (adaptation, re-deployment and competition) and macro factors in critically assessing the firm's international business development.
