This book analyzes the Malagasy Labor Code's compliance with international labor standards under the aegis of the International Labor Organization. From a historical perspective, we review the progressive incorporation of fundamental principles and rights at work from colonial times to the post-independence period. Next, a diagnosis of the realities of employment in a post-Covid19 context reveals new forms and modalities of work. We add an update on how the crisis has aggravated the informal economy. The Labor Code revision process ran from 2019 to 2022, and we comment on pro-employee themes and provisions such as enhanced protection for workers, including migrant and domestic workers, as well as maternity protection. We assess the extent to which these various concerns have been integrated into the reform of the Labor Code.
