International Socially Engaged Art Symposium (ISEAS) was held in Raseborg, Finland, the first time in 2017. The ISEAS is an annual art gathering where artists are working intensively together through the methods of participatory art. Artists implement different possibilities of intervention with local communities and in public space. Interventions are done within a short time (seven or ten days event), but artists are living in the residence, and work already starts a year before by curating the artists and communities, defining the theme of the symposium, and bringing artists together for preliminary planning. This book is based on an ISEAS event focused on performance art. Symposium lasted 10 days and the artist group worked for two days in a public place in the Raseborg area in Finland. The purpose of the event was to bring art closer to the people who mostly stay away from it. The work was community art, but the communities were not named in advance but were born on the spot.Performing artists improvise the working methods that formed the community. Later, they also conceptualized their process with the symposium mentor.
