The monograph based on the author's concept of interpersonal tolerance presents the results of research on tolerance as an important professional competence of psychology students studying in the system of higher and special professional education. The features of correlation of tolerance and identity in psychology students and trainee psychologists are considered. Qualitative characteristics of identity, interpersonal tolerance and defense mechanisms of future psychologists with different levels of communicative tolerance are described, and their generalized portraits are given. The specific interrelation of the degree of communicative competence expression and academic performance of students as one of the indicators of the effectiveness of mastering the profession is found and shown. Some factors associated with intolerant behaviour in situations of interpersonal communication are analysed. As the most important intrapsychic reasons of intolerance the author allocates intrapersonal conflict, character of experiences in the course of interaction, features of perception, an estimation and interpretation of a context of dialogue, and also actualization of concrete mechanisms of psychological protection.
