The Viraunga National Park in its northern sector is experiencing a serious conflict between its manager, ICCN, and the local residents. It is 3 km long from the Kasindi Post towards Lubiriha at the border post with the neighbouring Ugandan town of CUSTOMS. This leads to popular uprisings, insecurity, the presence of disease, famine, and the invisibility of certain wildlife and plant resources. Research has shown us that the interpretation of certain French words in the Park's boundary statement such as Route Carrossable, Point d'intersection, the delimitation of an area A to an area B such as "from Beni to Kasindi", the refusal by the authorities of the time to allow the population to return to their land after the eradication of sleeping sickness, constitute the cause.
