Interwoven by Serina D'Cruz Lewis is a poetic memoir. It honours her ancestors who paved the way for the adventurous spirit that has been passed down to succeeding generations in her family. The poems recount the deep connection she had with her parents and the thread that binds them to her children. The book tells of both halves of her life journey. Having spent the first half of her journey in India, her poems take the reader to times and events from her early years. Food played a large part in binding her family connections. Her love of Nature is evident in the recounting of her memories. The decision to immigrate to Canada and the realities of settling into life in this country are spoken of with deep sentiment and are relatable to those who have made similar journeys. Her love for both lands is evident. Both the countries she has lived in were colonized and with evocative language and keen detail, she tells of the effects on herself and her family. The collection of poems is intimately personal and universally relatable.
