This study approaches the novel Nadie me verá llorar (1999), written by Cristina Rivera Garza, through the female character Matilda Burgos and related to the history of the asylum La Castañeda in Mexico at the beginning of the 20th century. Tangible relations between history and fiction are considered: the writer and history; the intrahistorical features of the novel, the construction of the character in the course of major historical events and the appropriation of the discourses of the self filtered through psychiatric records.
