In 2025 the new entrants to higher education in Ireland is expected to reach 56,349 which is approx a 43% increase since 2009 (HEA 2014). In tandem there has and continues to be a digital revolution emerging in the delivery of education. However ambiguity remains as to the role that blended learning offers today's students and in particular the role of blended e-learning environments. The aim of this study was to explore adult learner perceptions and experiences of blended e-learning in the Irish context. Further research is required to inform the future development of highly interactive and flexible learning environments, in addition significant investment in technology and education and training for educators in the use and value of such technologies is essential to meet the demand of current and future adult students.
