Sharai Mashanda nasceu no Zimbabué. Estudou na Universidade de Midlands State University em Gweru durante quatro anos e licenciou-se em Contabilidade. Após a licenciatura, mudou-se para a África do Sul e prosseguiu os seus estudos com o Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), ao mesmo tempo que trabalhava num Hotel como Assistente de Contabilista.
