This book investigates whether the function of compliments is preserved from English into Persian in comedy film subtitles or not. 300 compliments were found and analyzed by the author in three American comedy movie subtitles. she coded the data and categorized them under six Leech's maxims, to diagnose the instances of the alterations in their function. Maryam Bordbar is PhD candidate of Linguistics in Tarbiat Modares University, Iran. Her field of interest and most of her research is in pragmatics and cognitive linguistics. At the moment, she is conducting her dissertation on Persian compliments from a cognitive semantic standpoint.
