This study is focused on the undocumented Irish immigrants currently residing in the United States, concentrating particularly on a sample group living in Boston. The study attempts to place this group of migrants within a broader discussion of international migration. Central to this is an analysis of the causation and perpetuation of such a migratory flow. The undocumented Irish can be seen to be an aberration in the general study of undocumented migration to the U.S. as they are leaving a then economically strong country to live informally.
