School age children, like most populations in low income countries, suffer from micro nutrient deficiencies. Few representative data are available on the levels of malnutrition in school age children, however, the available data on school age children follow the regional pattern of more extensive representative data from surveys of preschool children. This work therefore aimed at knowing the iodine nutriture of the school age children as their iodine status is an acceptable proxy for the iodine status of the general population ; in light of constant monitoring and evaluation of the on-going salt iodization program. It also provided results which will serve as basis to improve on the quality of evaluation data on school age children that are missing to the impact of iodization efforts at local government levels.
