The city of Guaramiranga is located in the state of Ceará, where it has been known since the 1990s for being a jazz and blues hotspot. Tourism is a strong component of the town's economy, thanks to attractions such as the cold mountain climate, beautiful landscapes and events organised all year round. However, research carried out in the region has revealed major socio-cultural contrasts and a loss of cultural memory among the young people who live there and no longer recognise themselves in their own roots. There is a great deal of controversy among the population about the cultural festivities that existed before the creation of the Jazz and Blues Festival, and its benefits for the local and native population of this region.
