The ischemic mitral valve regurgitation remains a challenge for the cardiac surgical community, representing the most frequently found mechanical complication of the acute myocardial infarction. The surgical approach remains a field of discussion and future recommendations. In 2001 we published the first of our studies regarding the ischemic mitral valve regurgitation dealing with a very difficult argument regarding the mild-to-moderate ischemic mitral valve regurgitation (Prifti E, J Heart Valve Dis. 2001 Nov;10(6):754-62.)Later other studies were published by our team such as (Prifti E, J Card Surg. 2003 Sep-Oct;18(5):375-83.) and (Bonacchi M, Prifti E, Heart Vessels. 2006 Jan;21(1):20-7). Such an experience and following data are included in this new book which has as an objective the presentation of the actual data regarding the treatment of the ischemic mitral valve regurgitation and future therapeutic alternatives. This book is one of the first dealing only with the ischemic mitral valve regurgitation. Asoc.Prof. Edvin Prifti is graduated, finished the residency in cardiac surgery (2001) and PhD (2006) from the University of La Sapienza, Rome, Italy. Graham Award (2003) and Fontan Award (2002). He is actually the director of cardiac surgery division at the University Hospital Center of Tirana, Albania.
