Ala Al-Hamarneh, Ph.D. in human geography (1994), is assistant professor in human geography and a researcher in the Center for Research on the Arab World at the University of Mainz. Issues of migration, poverty, globalization of services and cinematic geo-hermeneutics are in the centre of his academic research. Jörn Thielmann, Ph.D. (2001) in Islamic Studies, Ruhr-University Bochum, is since 2009 Executive Director of the Erlangen Centre for Islam and Law in Europe at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg. He is particularly interested in the anthropology of Islam and in Islamic normativities in a transnational context.
