Workshop Theatre One "Island in the Sky" is the first in a series of especially-commissioned theatreworks for Theatre-in-Education Projects: for use in the professional training of teachers, youth-leaders, social-workers and student-groups in schools and colleges - where every drama-class needs a texts for a cast of whatever size it happens to be - and where a heuristic method of exploration and discovery takes place through collaborative and open-ended 'workshopping': an open-ended process of learning-by-doing, without set rules or standard practices. "Island in the Sky" presents a traditional, agrarian community living in isolation, ignored by the modern world, which is brutally awakened from its sleep of centuries. The dramatic action flows across a number of key issues: family loyalties, generational gaps, superstitions and beliefs, propriety of the community's ancestral land, community commitments (to build a road): altogether, this is a familial-saga of cultural 'adjustments', without didactics or judgements.
