When Oxford anthropologist Pen sees Madison Watson, an American paleontologist, he is smitten--by her beauty and her uncompromising intelligence. But the sands of the desert are not the only things shifting. The arrival of Byron changes everything. He may think of himself as a romantic, but he is a man filled with darkness--something Ib, hiding his sexuality from his conservative family, will soon discover to his detriment. Lurking in the shadows is the naive but determined Shani, torn between her passion and her convictions.

Autorenporträt
Leigh Barrett is from South Africa and lived in Oregon for 18 years before returning home to write. "I spent much of my life in the world of journalism, writing about food insecurity and genocide and other humanitarian or newsy topics. An evening at a local writing group encouraged me to try switching to fiction, and what a fun ride it is!"Currently settled on top of an ancient mountain and between two beautiful coastlines, Leigh is committed to writing the kind of relatable stories that will have you cheering for the feisty, intelligent, vulnerable women who inhabit them. The locations are as much a character as the people, her love of research adds value to an easy read, and the humor peeks through, mostly when you least expect it.
