The essays in this volume are about those elections because elections give meaning to the role of citizens in democratic governance. The chapters depart from the study of formal structures by which the electorate choose their representatives. Kwame A. Ninsin is Emeritus Professor of Political Science, University of Ghana. Between 1995 and 2001 he was Executive Secretary for the African Association of Political Science then based in Zimbabwe. He combined this position with those of Journal Editor and several other responsibilities. He was later appointed Scholar in Residence at the Institute for Democratic Governance, a civic body and think thank, based in Accra. He has published extensively on issues related to Ghana and Africa.
