The issues raised in this book are not only germane but they are at the centre of the roles expected of the media in this socio-political era and environment. It also points at the core of the recurring issues that scholars and administrators alike should pay attention to. The book chronicles these issues in six chapters, each one with themes such as media systems in the world, the new media and education. This chapter is more apt and relevant because it talks directly to our students who are, more often than not, obsessed with their numerous gadgets than they are interested in their studies. The author also talked about the role of the media in democracy and how the media should be deployed in managing conflict and security issues in Nigeria. In all, readers of this book can be rest assured of one thing - the work is outstanding for its simplicity, depth and courage. The author examined various concepts of the trade in different climes and epoch; and tried, successfully, in bringing understanding to their complexities. The media question is an unending one. New technologies, new trends and new approaches towards perfecting the roles and the place of the media cannot be emphasized.
