A constant concern of academics and practitioners have been helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to achieve the same benefits of information technology (IT) than large companies. Many instruments and techniques have been proposed for this, but they have limited application in SMEs. This thesis aims to develop a methodology to help improve the use of IT in SMEs. The methodology was called IT-QSM (Information Technology - Quick Scan Methodology). IT-QSM was developed using action-research and case study.
