Ms. Lovick is passionate about the plurality and diversity of cultures within our United States and the world at large, and tries to help her students understand and relate to the music and cultural customs of many races and nationalities. She believes that within our culture there are many misunderstood minorities, not just the ones commonly espoused, and she understands their plight, having herself been part of one minority group or another for much of her life. Her hope is that the readers of her poems will be able to better empathize with the life situations of other cultural entities, thereby appreciating the beauty of their world. Jazmyn L. Gordon, age 14, is one of Ms. Lovick's piano students who is also very artistically talented. She resides in Kinston, NC, where she is a home-schooled 8th-grader.
