When Joan Reid gave birth to her first child Lorelle-Flossie as she was later nick named, Joan had no idea what lay ahead. Joan was pregnant with her second child when her life changed dramatically. Doctors diagnosed Flossie as having Organic Brain damage. Joan has always been determined to get the best outcome for Flossie. It often results in her views being incompatible with those of the welfare department who is responsible for disabled people living in their care. She is undaunted by the challenge. Joan received Commendations for her entries in the Fellowship of Australian Writers 2004 and 2008 National Literary Awards. Those commendations inspired her to write I've been good so far, the story of Flossie's life.
