Ivor Browne, Professor Emeritus at University College, Dublin, has been a central and controversial figure in Irish life up until his retirement as Chief Psychiatrist of the then Eastern Health Board in 1994. Inspired by his studies in Public and Community Mental Health at Harvard University, he took the care of mental patients away from large institutions and put them into the community. He helped create many organizations that have helped young Irish people see beyond the Troubles to build stronger, united communities. This book charts the growth of one man's journey in relation to psychiatry and human development.
