The sculptor Josep Salvadó Jassans (Alforja, 1938-2006) is a key figure in understanding 20th-century Catalan figurative sculpture insofar as he is the last great sculptor of a trend initiated by Aristides Maillol and which was to determine in a crucial way the way of understanding the classical world and updating the sculptural language based on the human figure. This lineage of sculptors, among whom Josep Clarà, Enric Casanovas and Joan Rebull stand out, is characterised by simplicity of form, geometry and balance.
