In his career of public service of over 40 years, Nance was one of two Oklahomans that held the top posts in both chambers of the Oklahoma Legislature in serving at separate times as Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives and President pro tempore of the Oklahoma Senate. Nance was also a key sponsor and Legislative Chairman of the U.S. Uniform Law Commission (ULC). The state''s largest newspaper,The Daily Oklahoman called Nance "A Legislator''s Legislator." Nance is the only Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives elected with a bipartisancoalition.
