Beginnings in Theatre and Journalism Beker attended William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute and began her career in entertainment with a role in the CBC sitcom Toby in 1968. Pursuing her passion, she studied theatre at York University and later trained in mime in Paris under Étienne Decroux. Upon returning to Canada, she worked with CBC Radio in St. John's as an arts and entertainment reporter.
