June 1815. The Duke of Wellington and Napoleon Bonaparte have fought a decisive battle in Flanders, and the people of England are anxiously waiting to hear who won. But the news is maddeningly slow in coming - and after three days there is at least one household in London where the lady of the house has had enough! Mrs. Lyon defiantly decides to host a dinner party for a few friends, and she gives her guests the following challenge: No one must mention the war. That's easier said than done, until Miss Rebecca Lyon comes up with an excellent idea. They will amuse themselves by telling stories about mysterious crimes which took place in the past. Before revealing the outcome, the teller of the tale will give the others a chance to guess the solution themselves. And so in this third volume of Jewish Regency Mystery Stories, the Lyon family and their guests - Mr. Ezra Melamed, the Franks family, Mr. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Baer, and the Earl of Gravel Lane and General Well'ngone - pass the long hours of the night of June 21, 1815, telling stories, while listening for the eagerly awaited news that the messenger from Waterloo has finally arrived. See if you can match wits with them and solve the mysteries before they do.
