Jim Harrison (1937-2016) was one of America's most versatile and celebrated writers, and he published nearly forty books of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, including the acclaimed trilogy of novellas Legends of the Fall . His books have been translated into two dozen languages, and he is a best-seller in both the United States and France. In 2007 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. With a fondness for open space and anonymous thickets, Harrison situated himself far from urban literary centers, and lived in rural Michigan, Montana, and along the US-Mexico border in Arizona. As the Sunday Times (London) wrote, "Jim Harrison is a writer with immortality in him."
