The fractured Huey fell out of the sky like a greased brick. The untold outcome was unfolding all too fast. "Bad shit, boys!" Was all he said. No one heard him. The fractured Huey fell out of the sky like a greased brick. The untold outcome was unfolding all too fast. "Bad shit, boys!" Was all he said. No one heard him. They were busy taking their last breath of air and they knew it. There was no time for hope. The Huey had been caught in the dead man's curve. The craft was too low and too slow and all the lift was gone too fast for any type of emergency recovery. They went down hard and fast smashing nose down into the trees. Everything plastic cracked and shattered immediately. The tree branches loudly and unmercifully whipped and peeled at the sides as the resulting self generated wind from the fall blasted in through the open side doors. The rotors joined in by contributing a lot of damage to the hull and the crew. The spinning rotors turned themselves and the trees to splintering shrapnel. The trees did little to break the fall after the initial contact and the Huey plunged to the ground and practically self-disintegrated. The crew and passenger were instantly killed. That fast, they were gone. Some were still in the skeleton of their craft and others tossed out haphazardly. Their body organs crushed as they absorbed the impact of being tossed first against the trees and then the unforgiving ground.
Autorenporträt
Joe Cawley is a Scranton, Pennsylvania native and a retired country gentleman. He relocated to the Saint Augustine, Florida area, in 2006, to pursue his love of writing. His background includes a stint at Villanova University followed by an Honorable Discharge from the USMCR in 1967. He followed a sales and marketing career for years, relocating often, as he dragged himself up the corporate ladder. Along the way, he managed to turn his childhood love of aviation into a reality by obtaining his Commercial Pilot's License for Airplanes and Helicopters. Over the years he has owned and flown a number of different aircraft and rotorcraft as a civilian pilot. A move to Rochester, NY brought a new beginning to a tired career, when he joined and upstart company in its infancy. The fledging database and software Development Company blossomed and Joe bloomed with it. Eventually, he became Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the burgeoning company. A bold decision after 10 years brought retirement and a move, along with his wife, the blessed saint, Margie (O'Malley) to Florida. The climate agreed with his creative bent and Hallowed Gesture, his first novel, was introduced in 2006. Now, four years later JIMBO comes to life. JIMBO picks up where his previous novel left off and is the final novel in the McDonnell Brothers saga. Joe's third novel is underway and is based on a true story. "MATCHED" is a tale of a young family struggling, against heartbreaking odds, to establish their imprint on American society. Their trial of passion and grief is spread over four gut retching years as they lock horns with, the system, conventional society and at times their own Department Of State. Their pursuits take them halfway around the world and back, and with a little bit of luck and a lot of love, they persevere as a culturally diverse family in a Southern setting.
