In recent times, youth restiveness in Nigeria particularly the Niger Delta areas have become very disruptive generating various concerns amongst scholars, politicians, and even activists alike. The increase in the economic and technological activities of the multinational oil companies in Nigeria has brought about serious degradation of the natural environment, eroding means of livelihood without corresponding opportunity for youth employment. On the other hand, youths are used by politicians and government functionaries as political thugs in the electioneering process. By this, they are armed and less attention is paid to disarmament of youth after elections. From here, restiveness emerges. Youth restiveness has metamorphosed in armed struggle by militia groups. The level of destruction of lives and property by youth restiveness in the Niger Delta in the past 12 years is astronomical. This book, therefore, provides an opportunity to explore the dynamics and dimensions of youth restiveness in Nigeria.
