Autorenporträt
Originally written as a part of "National Novel Writing Month" the John Arctangent series was originally envisioned to be a trilogy of novels. However, in addition to the yearly event in November, there are also other events known as "camps" where the fifty thousand-word target of NaNoWriMo is more flexible. In these events I wrote smaller stories based around specific characters in the chronicle, whose timelines often overlapped with the main novels. The first cen-tered around a Daughter of Cacophony named "Galadriel." This cen-ters around a fifteenth-generation vampire known as "Nevin" who was mentioned (although not by name) in the first novel and by name in the second. Why Nevin? One of the interesting themes of the World of Darkness is angst (a feeling of anxiety, apprehension, or insecurity). The world is actually a frightening place, and there are often more powerful things out there that can easily destroy you. This is especial-ly true for the weakest of the vampires, the ones whose generations are well past what was normally expected to be possible. In the origi-nal World of Darkness, the weakest generation was thirteenth. Later supplements added the fourteenth and fifteenth. But sometimes in weakness lies strength, as not only are the powers of a vampire make weaker but the "curses" as well.
