John Jacob Astor was a German-American businessman, merchant, real estate mogul, patron of the arts and investor who made his fortune mainly in the fur trade and by investing in real estate in or around New York City. He was the first prominent member of the Astor family and the first multi-millionaire in the United States. His American Fur Company competed with Canada's Northwest Company and Hudson's Bay Company. Astor also formed the Pacific Fur Company and the Southwest Fur Company. This publication "John Jacob Astor - Business Master" follows his career from tiny Waldorf Germany to the big business centers of New York, Montreal and China.
