Studies on deformation characteristics of early-ageJointed Plan Concrete Pavements (JPCP) subjected topure environmental loading has drawn significantinterest as it is believed that the early-agedeformation of Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) slabcould result in the loss of pavement smoothness andthe tensile stresses induced by these deformationscould result in early-age cracking. However, thecomplex interaction of several environmental factorshas resulted in difficulties in predicting the JPCPdeformation characteristics under environmentalloading. This book discusses the early-age behaviorsof JPCP under environmental loading. The slabdeformations associated with temperature andmoisture were analyzed using measured verticaldisplacements and pavement surface profilemeasurements. The variation of smoothness atdifferent measurement times and locations areanalyzed and discussed. The early-age deformationbehavior of instrumented JPCP under environmentalloading was also simulated using Finite Element (FE)programs using the equivalent temperature differenceconcept.
