In 2006 he plummeted down to a world ranking of 570 before mounting an incredible comeback after reaching the semi-finals of an ATP competition in Orléans, France, before losing to Olivier Rochus. He subsequently qualified for his first ATP Tour event outside the UK in Stockholm, and the semi-final of another lucrative event in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine
