Thomas R. Bransten, born in San Francisco, has been a merchant marine officer, an airline customer clerk, a news vendor, a car salesman, a travel agent and real estate agent. He spent most of his working life as a foreign correspondent in Paris with now defunct United Press International (UPI), and reporter for The International Herald Tribune. As a newsman, he traveled in much of Europe and extensively in Africa, covering wars and other stories of international significance.
