Lincoln Goldstone, disgruntled owner of a rundown travel agency in Manhattan, is surprised when he's invited on a deluxe tour to Zembeylia, Africa with some of the biggest names in the business. But in Zembeylia all is not peaceful - a corrupt politician, Bhulliwah, plots to overthrow the current king. Within the travel group there are also secret plottings and intrigues. Aboard an overnight train one of the tour leaders is murdered in a locked sleeping cabin. Goldstone, who has a next door cabin, is immediately suspected both by police and group members. Several more murders take place, with Goldstone always in the wrong place at the wrong time, and unless he can convince Zembeylia's top detective of his innocence, he's headed for the guillotine.
