Assange had applied for political asylum at the Embassy of Ecuador in 2012. Since then he has never left the Latin American diplomatic mission in London for fear of arrest and extradition to the United States, where he is accused of publishing secret documents of the State Department. Court hearings on extradition to the USA of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks organization, will resume in London on September 7, 2020. He will continue to be held in the reinforced regime prison Belmarsh in the east of the British capital. He's previously been denied bail on two occasions. The United States Department of Justice has filed 18 criminal charges against Assange. In particular, he is charged with crimes related to the largest case of disclosure of classified information in U.S. history. On all charges, Assange faces up to 175 years in prison.
