He married Flavia Ria Joan Blois, daughter of Sir Ralph Barrett MacNaghten Blois, 9th Bt. and Winifred Grace Hegan Kennard, on 20 August 1948. Lord Burntwood was a founding member of The Institution of Environmental Sciences. The Institution holds the annual Burntwood Lecture in his memory.
