Annekathrin Kohout holds a doctorate in cultural studies from the University of Siegen, Germany. In addition to her work as a freelance author and lecturer, she is co-editor of the book series "Digitale Bildkulturen" published by Klaus Wagenbach and the magazine "POP. Kultur und Kritik". She has been a member of the editorial board of the international "Journal of Global Pop Cultures" since 2022.
