Folk stories belong to a body of knowledge variously referred to as folklore, oral literature, verbal arts or oral traditions. Stories are the oldest form of teaching and their telling bonded the early human communities, giving children the answers to the biggest questions of creation, life, and the afterlife. Stories define, shape, control, and make us. Not every human culture in the world is literate, but every single culture tells stories. However, owing to advances in literacy, the mass media and globalization, the art of traditional storytelling is in danger of disappearing: hence my contribution towards collecting stories from my community as told by children.
