Charlene Macleod McDermid was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa. When Charlene was eleven years old, her mother enrolled her in formal yoga lessons. At sixteen, Charlene underwent advanced yoga training and at twenty-three, she qualified as a yoga and meditation teacher. In 1978, Charlene qualified as a pre-primary and kindergarten teacher at Barkly House Teacher's Training College in Cape Town, South Africa, achieving thirteen distinctions in her final exams. From 1995 to 2007, Charlene lived in Asia with her husband, Robert Bluett, and her son, Keshava Bluett. She now lives in the USA with Robert and Keshava.
