Kayden's Journey, The Adventure Begins is a fun book for children as well as anyone who loves animals. Based on the true story of Kayden, the Scottish Terrier pup, the journey begins in Montana where 14 week old Kayden is adopted and taken on his very first airplane ride to a city called Las Vegas. He is very sad to leave his Scottie Dog mom but also filled with expectation and excitement as he begins a new life in Nevada with his new adopted family. Kayden has many fun adventures during his first few weeks in Nevada as he meets all the neighbors annd enrolls in doggie day camp. Unfortunately life changes in an instant as the Coronavirus reaches the United States and Kayden's world quickly becomes very different and he is forced to cope with a variety of challenges. Kayden's hopes of going to school are also dashed as everything closes down. Having to stay at home all day without any company was making Kayden feel pretty sad and lonely until he meets his best friend Moose. Moose, being older and wiser, gives Kayden lots of advice on growing up and guides him through a wide variety of adventures. The book includes many pictures and stories of Kayden's adventures as he and Moose explore their new world in Nevada and then move to a place called Wyoming for their summer vacation. This is a book filled with happiness and joy even during a time of uncertainty in the world. Kayden's amusing behaviors make his mom and dad and all his other human friends smile every day as the antics of a Scottish Terrier pup are never ending!

After spending 35 years as a middle school counselor in Wyoming, I thought I was prepared for anything, but then along came a 14 week old Scottish Terrier named Kayden! He has definitely added "spice" and lots of excitement to our retirement years. Kayden arrived in our lives 3 weeks before the Coronavirus invaded our country as every aspect our life and routine suddenly changed. I had never been a writer of anything before and had no idea how to become an author but Kayden's antics first inspired me to begin Kayden's Journey on Facebook for all his friends and family. His "fan base" continued to grow as Kayden continued to tell the story of life during the pandemic, meeting new friends, and growing up to be a "big" dog with help from his best friend Moose! I also began sending short "Kayden stories" to nursing homes around the United States through a program called "Letters Against Isolation". As the story continued and his fan base continued to expand, the pressure was on for "Kayden" to put all his adventures together and write a book. So, after lots of advise from others and pairing with a wonderful graphic designer named Annie Davis, the book, "Kayden's Journey, the Adventure Begins" became a reality. Several "paw signing" parties had already been scheduled as Kayden and his people friends impatiently waited for the first addition!
