When a person is frustrated and they write their feelings down instead of taking action against someone or something, they are expressing their feelings through a positive medium. If a person is able to write down what they're feeling, they're able to sort through their thoughts and reflect on the situation at hand. Sometimes writing in a journal will keep a person from directing misguided anger toward others or saying something without thinking about it first. It will also keep anger from being bottled up inside because when a person writes, they feel like they're telling somebody how they feel instead of letting the anger sit and fester and become stronger.
