From her home on the island of Karpathos, a young, spirited Kelenoh, is taken from her family to Samos, a Greek island in the Eastern Aegean Sea (ca. 550 BC). As the one prophesied by the oracle of Delphi to be the next High Priestess of Hera, she is then sent to the city of Karnak and initiated by the High Priest Yufaa into Egypt's ancient and occult wisdom. Upon the untimely death of the presiding High Priestess, her training is cut short and she is summoned back to Samos. At 15, and with her stubborn streak still unconquered, she takes her place as leader and healer in one of the spiritual Meccas of her time. With the jealous ruler Polykrates constantly challenging Kelenoh, she finds herself in the middle of a power struggle amid the constant demands of those she's called to serve. In this historical fusion of mysticism and Greek religious tradition and ceremony, Hillie Kuipers beautifully narrates Kelenoh's story in a most personal and engaging manner, as though she had transcended time and space and vividly reliving a life from millennia ago. When visiting Samos in 1986, Hillie Kuipers saw suddenly visions of ancient times, and she had no idea what was happening to her. The visions became clearer and more intense over time, and she saw things one could not know they existed without inside knowledge. She didn't know anything about reincarnation, or the history of Samos, and was not at all interested in that kind of subject. But over time, discovering more and more of the story as it was re-lived by her through her visions, she came to understand that the woman she saw in her visions, the high priestess of the Temple of Hera on Samos, was a previous incarnation of hers. The story enfolds in great detail and sheds light on ancient religious rituals, the running of a temple complex, the progressive rule of the tyrant Polykrates, aspects of the life of the great philosopher Pythagoras, and of life in general, as it was lived on Samos in the 6th century BC. It also tells about eternal principles of truth as revealed to Kelenoh through her communication with the gods and the lessons from her teachers, the High Priest Yufaa, and her friend and mentor Pythagoras. Hillie shares fascinating insights into mysticism, religion, life and customs of an era long past, and into a life as lived by a woman who was destined for greatness, but was hindered by her own inability to balance her mind and emotions.
