Mitchell attended the University of Guelph where he studied landscape architecture and played for the school soccer team as a striker. He is best known for appearing as Eric Green in the U.S. television drama Jericho, which was cancelled by CBS in May 2007 but was brought back onto the 2007-8 schedule following a fan campaign to save the show. He has also appeared in single episodes of Flashpoint, CSI: Miami, Detroit 187 ,Grey's Anatomy, Ghost Whisperer, The Unit, and Law & Order: Los Angeles.
