This book examines the impact of economic slowdown in land market of Kerala. The study has made a comparative analysis of the timing of economic recession in different sectors of the economy. The study used data on land transactions from nine villages of Kasaragod district in Kerala. The trends in land market indicators like size of area; number of sales and price of land are subjected for a detailed analysis. The reflections of economic crisis was felt much earlier in stock market than any other sector. Within the domestic sectors, economic recession has been visible in the land market earlier than other sectors. This was reflected in all the key variables that were examined in relation to land. An analysis of the trends in variables like area transacted, sales transactions, and price exhibits the presence of speculation in land market. This also indicates the changing profile of land as a speculative or investible asset. The analysis has also established the strong relationshipbetween land market and business cycles.
