Try turning the clock back two generations in time and experience the sweltering summer of fourteen-year-old Dalan Dawson-the new kid in town-as he meets the new neighborhood kids in the dusty, small, cotton-farming town of Coolidge, Arizona. His boring summer turns very interesting when Dalan first lays eyes on the brown-eyed, dark-haired Marie Palermo. She is special from his first shy glimpse of the sassy, rich, and very smart girl. Over the next few days, she leads him into an excitement-filled world of ancient intrigue when she invites him to help her explore a newly-uncovered desert cave that lies beneath the ruins of an ancient Anasazi village. From the action of the neighborhood kids' street game-kick the can-to the ancient spiderweb-filled caverns with their long-forgotten treasures, the two teens are caught up in mysteries, muggings, and murders. Who killed the town's high school hero, and who abandoned the three-hundred-year-old Spanish padre and his jewel-encrusted, gold cross? Dalan and Marie's story seems too bizarre to be true - or maybe not.

Autorenporträt
After thirty years of medical practice-delivering more than seven thousand babies-and raising five children with his wife, Paula, Doctor Dahl now splits his time between their homes in the Arizona desert and the mountain peaks of Utah. Their most recent travels took them to central Europe, where for over a year they managed the medical care of the Latter-day Saints missionaries and researched the health care systems in such fascinating countries as Poland, Romania, Moldova, and Serbia. These European adventures added to Dr. Dahl's experiences of living on the tiny islands of the Pacific, his Vietnam experience on a navy hospital ship, and time spent in a struggling Liberian hospital. His previous fascination with ranching, flying, scuba diving, sailing, and serving his country as a major in the US Army all add credence and a realistic twist to his stories. The best days of his life are those spent with his wife and family, especially with their children and grandchildren. With his sixth novel penned, and another taking shape, he and Paula will stay put in the United States for a while to watch the grandkids grow.
