Our planet, Earth, has large reserves of oil and gas trapped deep beneath its surface. An oil spill happens when liquid petroleum is released into the environment by vehicle, vessel or pipeline. This book is a record of a research done in a community (Baruwa) in Nigeria where their ground water was polluted with refined petroleum products because of the old, rusty and ruptured pipeline that passed through the community. More than 500,000 people were deprived of good water. Physicochemical parameters, heavy metals and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon were first determined and remediation was carried out using potassium permanganate and its kinetics of remediation followed a second order reaction. This research was successful because there was decrease in TPH at every stage of the remediation process.
