Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards is one of few Kirby titles not directed by Masahiro Sakurai, released on the Nintendo 64 in the year 2000, on Virtual Console on February 25, 2008 in North America and March 7, 2008 in Europe. It is the first game to have 3D graphics and is on the Nintendo 64 which stars Kirby. It is not the first 3D game to feature Kirby nor the first game on the Nintendo 64 to feature Kirby (Super Smash Bros. was released on the system and was in 3D and featured Kirby as a playable character). The game is notable for Kirby''s ability to merge two separate copy abilities together as opposed to just using one. It is also the sequel to Kirby''s Dream Land 3. In early 2008 the game joined, North America, Europe and Japan''s Virtual Console for the Wii Shop Channel. It is playable with the Classic Controller and Gamecube Controller, and costs 1000 Nintendo Points.
