Including this work, Speak Easy 101, Dessie Bey is the author of five poetry books: Know Thyself, An African American Poetic Journey; Snappin' Out in More Ways than One; A Pittsburgh Poets Anthology; and Mental Masturbation Quit Playing with Yourself. Dessie is co-founder of The Langston Hughes Poetry Society of Pittsburgh and has received the Keeper's of the Flame Award (Legacy Arts Project) and Classic Events Arts & Culture Poetry Award for her contribution to the literary arts and social activism.
